Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how LandGuessr handles information when you use the website, iOS app, gameplay, account, purchases, and support features. It is written for the current beta-ready product and should be reviewed before a paid public launch.

Information we collect

• Account information from Auth0, including your email address, display name, Auth0 subject identifier, email verification status, and session identifiers.
• Gameplay information, including games started, guesses, scores, completion status, daily play-limit records, Daily Challenge activity, and leaderboard entries.
• Spoiler-safe Daily result links you choose to create, including the challenge date, score, total clue use, streak, completion time, expiry, and revocation status. These links do not include locations, answers, coordinates, imagery, clue text, or your name.
• Private asynchronous challenges you choose to host or join, including an opaque invite token, the frozen route, expiry and revocation state, participating account identifiers, and completed scores. Public invite previews do not include player names, answers, coordinates, imagery URLs, or clue text.
• Legacy anonymous browser identifiers stored in cookies so we can enforce earlier play limits and restore an existing game after account creation. New gameplay requires an account.
• Technical information such as request metadata, device/browser details, approximate usage timestamps, and security logs.
• Product analytics events if analytics are enabled, such as game starts, guesses, completions, signups, and waitlist or share actions. Campaign attribution may include bounded UTM values, the first landing path, and an external referrer hostname, but not the full referring URL.
• Error diagnostics if Sentry or a similar error-monitoring service is enabled. We configure these tools to avoid intentionally collecting sensitive gameplay secrets or exact target coordinates before a guess is submitted.
• Purchase information when paid subscriptions are enabled. Website payment-card details are handled by Stripe. iOS purchases are processed by Apple and subscription status is managed through RevenueCat. LandGuessr stores provider identifiers, product, entitlement, status, and timing information needed to provide and restore access; it does not receive your full payment-card number.
• Notification preferences and scheduled Daily or weekly reminders in the iOS app. Launch reminders are scheduled locally on your device, are off by default, and do not require us to collect or store an Apple push token.

How we use information

• Authenticate users and maintain secure sessions.
• Operate gameplay, scoring, leaderboards, and daily limits.
• Detect abuse, enforce game rules, and protect service integrity.
• Improve onboarding, retention, support, and product quality.
• Provide customer support and account deletion/export workflows.
• Process subscriptions and billing support when paid plans launch.

Cookies and local identifiers

LandGuessr uses cookies for authentication, anonymous gameplay and analytics identification, first-touch campaign attribution, security, and daily usage enforcement. The iOS app also stores settings and credentials in platform storage so it can restore your session, appearance, language, reminder, and consent choices. Anonymous identifiers are not intended to identify you by name, but they do distinguish one browser or app installation from another.

Third-party services

We use third-party services to operate the product, including Auth0 for authentication, Mapbox for map display, hosting/database/cache providers, Mapillary for community street-level panoramas when Street View mode is enabled, Stripe for website billing, Apple for iOS purchases, and RevenueCat for subscription entitlement management. The iOS build contains Google Mobile Ads support for a possible future release, but advertising is disabled and the current app does not request or display ads. These providers process information according to their own terms and privacy policies.

Satellite imagery and maps

Gameplay scenes and map tiles are loaded through configured imagery and map providers. We do not intentionally expose target coordinates to clients before a guess is submitted.

Street View mode loads selected community panoramas through Mapillary. Mapillary receives the network and device information normally sent when its viewer loads imagery; its own privacy terms apply. LandGuessr stores the selected image identifier and required attribution, not a player’s live location.

Data retention

We retain account, gameplay, support, and operational data for as long as needed to provide the service, enforce rules, satisfy security needs, support billing records when paid plans launch, and comply with applicable obligations. We may keep aggregated or de-identified analytics after account deletion.

Public Daily result links expire after 90 days, can be disabled from the result screen, and are deleted with the associated account or game. A disabled link may remain in a cache for up to five minutes.

Private challenge links expire after 14 days and can be disabled by their host. Challenge records and attempts are deleted when their host account or source game is deleted. A disabled or expired public availability response may remain in a cache for up to three minutes.

Your choices

Signed-in users can request an account export or deletion from the Account data page. If the self-service flow is unavailable, contact hello@landguessr.app. For beta, manual requests are handled within 30 days unless a shorter period is required.

Children and classrooms

LandGuessr is not intended for children to use without appropriate parent, guardian, school, or teacher consent. Classroom use should avoid sharing student personal information unless the school has approved the tool and its data practices.

Changes

We may update this policy as the product, mobile apps, analytics, or billing features change. Material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
